Peter is committed to using science for generating economic and social benefit and a future where citizens are better engaged with science. He is a board member of CSIRO (Chair, Board Science Excellence Committee)and Hear and Say Centre for Deaf Children Ltd (Chair, Board Strategy Committee). He is Panel Chair, Experimental Development Fund (investing in deep technology) and Chair, Infrastructure Co-Lab Advisory Board. He is a mentor of diverse professionals.
He has had a significant career as scientist and research director in agriculture (at CSIRO) and in research commercialisation (at the University of Queensland) and more recently has held governance roles in life sciences enterprises including agriculture and health. Selected previous roles include Chair of Griffith Enterprise (Griffith University); Board Member, Alberta Research and Innovation Authority (Canada); Council Member, Entrepreneurial Universities Initiative (New Zealand); Chair, Wound Management Innovation CRC and Board Member, Innovation Australia.
He has a long standing interest in how innovation enables economic development and continues to advise diverse countries and regions. He is an elected member of Chatham House and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (FRSA). He was recently appointed Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to biotechnology, innovation and science.
