This report provides details of the scope and key aspects of the Cool Soil Initiative project, key results and learnings, and the current and potential impact in supporting sustainable agriculture and generating reporting relevant for both Australia and across global corporates. The project started in 2020, developing a framework for major food-related companies to use to understand and work towards reducing Scope 3 emissions generated on-farm in their supply chain. This framework is underpinned by an end-to-end digital solution, for data collection through to impact reporting, to enable scaling and expansion across all agriculture. The project recognised that companies wanted to directly support farmers to maintain and improved sustainable production and at the same time mitigate greenhouse gas emissions on farm without compromising productivity or profitability.
