The platform was officially accredited as meeting standards set out in the Food Agility Best Practice Data Policy.
Food Agility CEO, Richard Norton, commended the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), Western Australia for making data management atop priority in the platform build.
“DPIRD’s Extrata™ team invited us to put their data management protocols to the test and have proven them to be world-class,” Mr Norton said.
“Farmers can be confident that appropriate measures are in place to protect data they share on Extrata™. This is an important step forward for agricultural innovation in Australia, which increasingly relies on data shared between farmers and service providers.”
Extrata™ was developed in response to producers’ concerns about sharing sensitive commercial and research data. The platform securely transports data, encrypted end-to-end, providing farmers with confidence that their ag data is supplied to the intended recipient only and remains confidential.
DPIRD is seeking interested early adopters to participate in the Extrata™ pilot in coming months to help refine the product and its usability.
Food Agility data experts accredited Extrata™ following six months of rigorous analysis, examining technical architecture, terms and conditions and internal data management procedures.
The Food Agility Best Practice Data Policy aims to protect the interests of farmers who generate data, while encouraging data sharing to propel innovation. It aligns to the National Farmers’ Federation Farm Data Code and incorporates best practices from similar policies around the world.
